Our Argyle Kilt stockings are made of 100% Oregon sheep wool. We hand pick the fleece as it is shorn off the sheep. The wool is then sent to a mill and spun to our specifications. We take the yarn and hand dye it to the colors needed to match the kilt tartan. The stockings are knit on a flat bed knitting machine using the intarcia method. This method makes the inside finished with no loose threads. A side seam is sewn in by hand to complete the stocking. This seam is almost invisable with one washing and does not leave a ridge on the inside.
Along with Argyll stockings (made in either dance or heavy weight) we also make the Military Dice, solid color stockings with cables on the cuff and down the sides of the leg, and Hand Knit Aran pattern Hose. The Military dice can be made with a stand up plain cuff (no pattern) or fold down with pattern. These stockings can be made as a Full Stocking or a Hose Top (with no foot). The Argyll and Dice can also be made with the Castle Top stand up cuff which is to be worn with formal wear. The Flash is a ribbon type tied on the outside. The Aran pattern hose are hand knit with heavy weight yarn. These stockings have the pattern on the front and back of the leg.
We pride ourselves in being able to fit anyone and match any tartan, so each pair is custom made. Because of this we require some information from you before we can start making your stockings.
